Meet John

John Robert Hatherly
The world is what you make of it
Founder + Principal Strategist
John Robert Hatherly is a brand and narrative strategist working at the intersection of advanced science, institutional systems, and mission-driven organizations. He advises founders and executive teams navigating complexity, helping them define structural clarity, positioning architecture, and long-term strategic coherence.
He is the founder of Chamber, a research-driven creative impact studio focused on biotech, advanced science, and impact-driven enterprises. His work examines how incentives, governance structures, and narrative systems shape organizational behavior. Before expression begins, he studies structure.
With a foundation in mathematics and economics and more than fifteen years developing strategic and narrative logic for founders and institutions, John translates complexity into durable direction. His approach blends systems thinking with cultural literacy, ensuring that positioning is both intellectually rigorous and humanly legible.
Beyond Chamber, John leads two parallel research platforms. The Infinite Search is a long-form inquiry into culture, economics, and human meaning. Through Sondwerk, his studio-based art practice, he investigates archival systems and the construction of institutional memory.
John is a founding member of the Chicago Design Museum and former Vice President of the Chicago Graphic Design Club. He is a member of AIGA, a partner of 1% for the Planet, and a signatory of Clean Creatives.
He believes that structure shapes meaning, and that creativity carries responsibility.
